The Day the Clouds Touched the Earth

Summer days are for daydreaming into the sky.
Stretched out over a homemade quilt grandma made.
Guessing the different shapes that go by.
“Look at that one!” yelled Charlie as he prayed.
“That’s a warrior like me, ready to conquer anything!”
“Mighty and strong and never swayed!”
“I wish I could touch the clouds today!”
Charlie reached up to the sky high and confident.
Then, a voice said “Soon my child, one day!”
The days flew by and every day was the same.
Alone with his thoughts and in the company of the High King.
Stretched out on his back he would proclaim.
“Look at that one.” said Charlie as he prayed.
“That one is a hero like me, ready for an adventure!”
“Bold and fearless and never dismayed.”
“I wish I could touch the clouds today!”
Charlie looked up to the sky with great anticipation.
A voice spoke back and said “Soon my child, one day!”
The endless summer was sadly coming to an end.
Charlie went out one last time to look up to the sky,
And talk with his new friend.
“Look at that one” whispered Charlie as he prayed.
“He’s a survivor like me, ready to live his life.”
“Brave and Confident and wonderfully made.”
“I wish I could touch the clouds today!”
Charlie closed his eyes and was filled with hope.
A gentle voice said, “Soon my child, one day.”
Then, one crisp morning in the early fall.
Charlie was awoken early before dawn.
“Today is the day child!” he heard him call.
He raced to the field without delay.
He had asked and asked, the day had finally come.
He would touch the clouds today.
As Charlie approached the field, he was amazed
He assumed he would be going up to the clouds.
But he was wrong, “The clouds came to me!” He praised.
With arms stretched wide Charlie ran fast.
Into the fog that hovered just above the ground.
His prayers weren’t just answered, they were surpassed.
That was the day Charlie knew his worth.
That was the day his dreams became true.
That was the day the clouds touched the earth.
